Continue the promise that brought the visitor
Make the landing page answer the promise that brought the visitor there. An ad for a specific assessment followed by a generic homepage adds unnecessary interpretation work.
Message match means the destination addresses the specific offer or problem introduced by the referring message. A broad homepage can interrupt a focused campaign when the visitor must reconstruct the offer themselves.
A worked example
A hypothetical ad offers a technical visibility assessment but lands on a page emphasizing general branding. The visitor cannot easily confirm the assessment scope. A dedicated, accurate explanation and matching next step would resolve that uncertainty.
How to apply it
- Compare the referring promise with the destination’s opening answer and offer.
- Check scope, terminology and eligibility for consistency.
- Provide a next step proportionate to the reader’s stage and the actual service.
What the result can establish
Use inquiry fit and verified completion as outcome evidence. A lower bounce or higher time-on-page measure alone does not prove better matching. Avoid improving superficial consistency by repeating claims that the service cannot substantiate.
