A website records interactions; a pipeline records sales progress
Website evidence describes observed visits and actions; pipeline reporting needs sales-stage records and reconciliation. A form submission alone cannot establish that a prospect became an opportunity or customer.
Website analytics can describe measured acquisition and behavior. A CRM can record qualification, ownership, stage changes and commercial outcomes when maintained correctly. Neither source should be treated as a complete substitute for the other.
A worked example
A hypothetical form generates 30 inquiries, of which sales accepts ten opportunities and wins two. Website inquiry counts remain 30; they should not be renamed opportunities. A delayed CRM update can also make a recent cohort appear less successful than it will eventually become.
How to apply it
- Define the handoff between accepted inquiry and sales qualification.
- Preserve source context and stable identifiers using approved systems.
- Compare cohorts at suitable maturity rather than mixing this month’s leads with unrelated wins.
What the result can establish
SharkBlade provides marketing intelligence and supported lead evidence; do not infer a complete sales ledger from it. Revenue conclusions need verified downstream records. Keep missing qualification or revenue data explicit.
