A persuasive ad can attract the wrong response
Investigate whether the new clicks represent the intended audience and whether the landing journey still works. More appealing creative can attract curiosity without generating relevant inquiries.
A higher click-through rate measures response to an ad among observed impressions. It does not establish improved landing-page fit, inquiry quality or business outcomes. Changes in audience and placement can alter the rate.
A worked example
A hypothetical ad promises free assistance and CTR rises, but the firm sells complex paid consulting. Visits increase while suitable inquiries fall. The problem may be the offer expectation rather than the form’s color or the budget.
How to apply it
- Compare audience, query and creative changes alongside CTR.
- Inspect the destination’s continuity with the ad promise.
- Use accepted suitable inquiries and their cost to evaluate the broader result.
What the result can establish
Keep absolute counts and conversion definitions visible. A high CTR is a diagnostic signal, not permission to make unsupported promises. Restore accurate expectations before buying more of the same response.
