Pausing needs a verified reason and a review plan
Inspect measurement, fit and learning evidence before deciding whether a campaign deserves more time or a pause. An apparently weak result can reflect broken collection, unsuitable queries or an offer problem.
A campaign can underperform because of bad measurement, a broken path, unsuitable demand or a genuinely weak offer. Pausing may prevent waste, but an incomplete recent cohort is not automatically failure. First identify what decision the available evidence can support.
A worked example
A hypothetical campaign’s form fails a controlled test. Pausing until repair may be sensible. A separate campaign has only a few recent inquiries in a long sales cycle; lack of immediate wins does not establish the same failure.
How to apply it
- Check conversion integrity, destination availability and actual inquiry suitability.
- Compare spend with the agreed test scope and evidence maturity.
- Document whether to pause, repair, narrow or continue, with a specific review condition.
What the result can establish
Avoid arbitrary universal spend thresholds or guaranteed lead targets. Preserve the change log and relevant records so a restart can be evaluated. A pause is a risk-control decision, not proof that the channel can never work.
