Choose the communication objective first
The right social KPI depends on what the content is meant to accomplish. A technical explanation can help a buyer understand a service before it produces a website visit. A booking announcement has a different immediate task. Judge each against its intended role rather than expecting every post to generate a lead. Separate delivery, interaction, destination activity and business outcomes. A strong number at one layer does not automatically establish the next layer. In particular, an impression is not a unique person and a social click is not necessarily a measured website session.
A practical KPI reference
| Objective | Useful measure | Interpretation limit |
|---|---|---|
| Publishing consistency | Posts published in the agreed scope | Quantity does not establish usefulness |
| Distribution | Impressions or reach, with provider definitions | Impressions and unique reach are different |
| Interaction | Engagement count and a defined rate | The denominator and included actions matter |
| Website interest | Link clicks and supported referral evidence | Clicks may differ from collected sessions |
| Enquiry activity | Verified captured enquiries with source context | An enquiry is not a signed customer |

The demo’s September cards show 14 posts, 13,560 impressions, 201 clicks and 551 engagements. These synthetic numbers are useful for practicing interpretation. They do not establish that the audience was qualified or that any engagement produced revenue. For a reporting exercise, 551 divided by 13,560 is approximately 4.06%. Call that an engagements-per-impression calculation using those displayed counts. Do not relabel it as every provider’s official engagement rate. Platforms may include different actions or use a different denominator.
Decide what to change
If impressions grow but useful destination activity does not, inspect the topic, call to action and link destination before increasing posting volume. If a detailed technical post attracts a small relevant audience, examine the quality of the discussion instead of dismissing it solely because a broader post received more impressions. An illustrative test is to compare two explanations of the same service with a consistent destination and review period. Record the format, buyer question and intended action before publication. Do not infer an experiment’s winner from one unusually successful post.
Put social alongside the rest of the evidence
SharkBlade places Social Media alongside website, search, paid and capture evidence. That context helps identify whether the business needs better distribution, clearer content or a more usable enquiry path. Source-specific definitions and collection coverage still matter. Choose one improvement for the next review, such as replacing a generic claim with a clear service explanation and relevant link. Keep the outcome tied to the objective: useful interactions, relevant visits or verified enquiries. Use the channel-selection guide if the question is where to invest, and the social pillar-plan guide if the question is what to publish.
