Marketing observations are not automatically revenue attribution
Use the verified measures available and identify where sales evidence is still required. Attributing revenue to a visit or an unqualified inquiry overstates what marketing collection alone proves.
An increase in relevant visibility or verified inquiries can be meaningful without proving additional revenue. Sales cycles, existing demand and multiple touchpoints complicate the relationship. Report the strongest conclusion supported by each source instead of filling a commercial gap with an optimistic attribution story.
A worked example
A hypothetical company records 15 more inbound inquiries after improving a service page. Three contracts close that month, but all three originated earlier. The inquiry increase is observable. Assigning those contracts to the new page would require an appropriate cohort and verified commercial records, not merely matching calendar dates.
How to apply it
- Identify the observed marketing event and the source supporting it.
- Separate newly acquired cohorts from older opportunities closing in the period.
- Use authorized sales and accounting evidence before making customer or revenue claims.

A sound report can state that inquiries improved while revenue impact remains unverified.
