Conversation volume and usable inquiries are different populations
Separate identifiable inquiries from anonymous or incomplete chat interactions. Conversation volume can rise without adding usable contact records.
Chat can include support questions, automated greetings, anonymous exchanges and genuine buying inquiries. The number of conversations is not necessarily the number of new identifiable leads. Qualification needs a documented rule.
A worked example
A hypothetical widget reports 60 conversations. Ten contain usable business inquiries, five repeat earlier contacts and several concern existing-customer support. Reporting all 60 as new sales leads would change the definition of the source activity.
How to apply it
- Separate automated activity, support and prospective buying inquiries.
- Record usable identity and request details only under appropriate collection practices.
- Deduplicate supported inquiries against other channels and previous contacts.
What the result can establish
Do not publish private chat transcripts as proof without permission. Review response handling and unresolved inquiries rather than rewarding conversation volume alone. Unknown identity or fit should remain explicitly unknown.
